Close Encounters Of The Wallaby Kind

25-Mar-2011

Naturewise Conservation Holidays are offering the opportunity to venture beyond the reserve management gates of stunning Tidbinbilla in an exclusive, behind the scenes wildlife experience.

Getting Nature Wise in Australia's High CountryNestled between Tidbinbilla and Gibraltar Ranges, the reserve forms part of the Australian Alps National Parks, a series of parks and reserves that span Australia's high country. The Australian Alps are National Heritage listed, recognising that their natural and cultural values are of outstanding national significance.

Tidbinbilla currently has twenty one Southern Brush-tailed Rock-wallabies in captivity, which is approximately seventy percent of the captive breeding population in Australia. Working alongside Tidbinbilla Wildlife officers, small group conservation tours provide visitors with an insight into the endangered wildlife recovery program. Our guide and wildlife officers take guests into the 'off limit' areas for close encounters with some of the Australia's precious wildlife. After a rewarding day contributing to conservation, guests enjoy a three course dinner under the stars before retiring to Nil Desperandum, a pioneer homestead hidden away in a tranquil valley. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a personal and lasting contribution to wildlife conservation.

The experience supports the ongoing recovery program and provides remarkable hands-on encounters with these rare Australian wallabies. The tour is run in partnership between Tidbinbilla and Conservation Volunteers and bookings are now being accepted.
