North Stradbroke Island, Manly, Cleveland, Carindale, Annerley
On the way east towards the glassy waters of Moreton Bay, are the leafy suburbs of Annerley and Carindale. These suburban centres have large shopping districts accompanied by a scattering of good restaurants and cafes.
Once at the bay, the attractive seaside suburbs of Manly and Wynnum have some lovely beaches, great fishing, and plenty of places to unwrap a picnic. Yacht races are held from Manly's huge marina every Wednesday, creating a spectacle where it appears as though there are more boats than people.
To the south, Cleveland has some more nice beaches and some exceptional historic houses, two of which are over one hundred and thirty years old. It's also the departure point for ferries to North Stradbroke Island.
Of the coast, North Stradbroke Island is a popular escape from the bustle of Brisbane which has remained relatively unspoilt. The northern section of the island has a series of points, bays and headlands with endless stretches of sandy white beaches. A wide choice of water sports are available to visitors as well as hikes to the various natural wonders such as the Blue Lake found on the island. All accommodation is located on the northern end at Point Lookout and Amity Point.
